RICK F. SANCHEZ

Dr. Rick F. Sanchez, BSciBiol, DVM, DipECVO, FHEA, is a European Specialist in Veterinary Ophthalmology and an internationally recognised educator in clinical ophthalmology. After completing a bachelor’s degree in Biology at Saint Thomas Aquinas College (USA), he obtained his veterinary degree in 1999 through Ross University and Louisiana State University, followed by an EU veterinary qualification from the University of Barcelona in 2001.

He completed his ophthalmology residency through the University of Glasgow and Eye Veterinary Clinic (UK), becoming a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ECVO) in 2007. In 2014, he became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy for his contributions to veterinary education.

Dr. Sanchez joined the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, in 2011 to relaunch the Ophthalmology Service and establish an ECVO residency training program. Since 2017, he has worked in referral practice at Specialistische Dierenkliniek Utrecht (AniCura, Netherlands).

He is an internationally invited lecturer and course director, developing comprehensive ophthalmology training programs including the Veterinary Ophthalmology Surgery Course (VOSC). He serves as Associate Editor of Veterinary Ophthalmology and Section Editor for ophthalmology at BMC Veterinary Research. His research interests include corneal disease, corneal surgery, and cataract surgery, with numerous peer-reviewed publications and book contributions.
