Prof. Dr. Murat CENGİZ is a veterinary pharmaceutical microbiologist whose academic and scientific work focuses primarily on environmental antimicrobial pollution, multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria, antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, antimicrobial stewardship, and resistance control strategies.
He completed his doctoral studies at Boğaziçi University between 2003 and 2007, with research centred on pharma-ecology and risk assessment. During his PhD training, he conducted research at Justus Liebig University Giessen (2003–2004), and later at Utrecht University Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS) and the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) (2005–2006), where he worked on the characterization of antimicrobial resistance and the environmental mobilization of resistance genes and antimicrobials.
Between 2013 and 2014, Prof. Cengiz continued advanced research on MDR bacteria at the University of Birmingham Institute of Microbiology and Infection (IMI).
He has served as principal investigator in several national and international research projects supported by organizations such as TÜBİTAK and European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST). His ongoing work integrates clinical, molecular, and environmental perspectives of antimicrobial resistance, aiming to strengthen the translation of scientific knowledge into clinical practice.
