Prof. Dr. Tolga Güvenç graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Ankara University in 1991. He completed his PhD in Veterinary Pathology in 1997, was appointed associate professor in 2003, and promoted to full professor in 2009. He is currently a faculty member in the Department of Veterinary Pathology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ondokuz Mayıs University.
His scientific work focuses on cell death mechanisms and phytotherapy. He has conducted extensive in vivo and in vitro studies investigating the molecular basis of apoptotic and autophagic pathways. His research particularly examines how these processes are affected by factors such as pesticide exposure and how they can be modulated at the molecular level through the use of natural products and plant-derived extracts.
Prof. Dr. Güvenç has conducted both completed and ongoing experimental studies on the antibacterial, antiparasitic, wound-healing, antipsoriatic, behavior-modulating, nephroprotective, and neuroprotective effects of natural compounds—including essential and fixed oils—in animal models.
He has authored 90 scientific publications, 78 of which have appeared in internationally indexed (SCI) journals, and has presented over 80 papers at national and international congresses and symposia. He has participated in 40 research projects, including two international collaborations, and has served as principal investigator in 14 of them.
